Entry #9: topics in food quest

Hello everyone, I hope all is well, today I will be responding to this food comic.

The first thing I notice about this comic is the visual representation. I notice the chef comes to ask the customer a question about the food. The chef is the one who made the food so it is reasonable to want feedback on their recipe and skill.

However there is a further message that the artist wants to show the audience. That is, the egg beginning to speak. It makes this ironic because eggs cannot speak which is a main part of the message. The author and artist wants to convey the message that the things we eat are not or may not always seem like they are for the best of our consumption.

For example, we do not see the egg in the first picture and the artist does this on purpose to show the anticipation of the egg wanting to talk about the feeling it has being cooked and consumed.

Also, the egg speaks as if it wants the chef to feel guilty because the chef did not acknowledge how the egg had to be cooked in order to be served. The customer was about to answer but the egg takes over instead and talks about its feelings as if they were never considered in the first place. This also makes the chef feel at fault.

Overall, the message is to watch what we consume. The artist did a good job executing this even through its simplicity and the artist achieved a strong message through subtle yet having to analyze it.

That all for this week. Thank you.
