Hello everyone. Yes you read that right. I had rehearsal that took 8 hours.
For context, I play the cello in my high school orchestra and in my district there is an annual honors band and orchestra that takes place for the skilled. I am in it and we had our rehearsal today since the concert is the next day.
I was nervous at first. It began at 8am and I was not really that confident in myself because my sound recently had been off for some reason. It turned out to be just fine in rehearsal. I was getting the hang of being confident again and I was doing really good. I was in the zone until it was after lunch.
After lunch, I noticed my hands, back, and neck were extremely hurting. I sat through it all and we worked on other pieces and it took us a while. We had breaks in between and I used those breaks to lay down to ease my back pain. It was such a good feeling.
Closer to the end, I was so exhausted because my arms felt like they would fall off. I lost count of how many hours we had been there already but I did not make it obvious because I can tell everyone else was also feeling drowsy. We were all in the same position.
When it was time to leave. I was so happy but in pain still. I ended up getting a headache and the pieces we played stuck in my head. I sort of feel like today wasn't even real because I have never rehearsed for 8 hours. For an entire school day and an after school practice.
It was fun but I'm glad I can now rest. Even though it is one of my favorite things to do, I'm glad I am not looking at my music. Thats it for this week. Thank you.
